She's lost her mind

I once knew a very nice girl named Cheryl Crow --
But there it is -- the deer-in-the-headlights look of madness -- there had better be mention of a bidet somewhere in this story...

Beryl

Wow -- in the words of Chris Farley -- holy schnikies! Beryl is simply amazing -- it's a 3d desktop for Linux -- and the instructions that they gave for Debian were perfect -- and I must say, the effects are not only cool but useful -- they give a visual feedback for what's going on

For example, when you're dragging a window, it'll wobble it such that you know in which direction it's going -- that's amazing. The transparency is key as well, and to top all of that off, the cube feature -- simply amazing -- it really is "next gen" -- and for free -- I'm tempted, were it not for the games, to do just everything in Linux -- this is amazing!

Recipe: Lamb Shank & Orzo

Just for my own edification :-)

Ingredients:
3 lbs lamb shank (about 4 pieces)
4 small onions, chopped
500g of Orzo (that's 3 cups worth)
1 can tomato sauce (15 oz -- not a jar, a little can)
Pepper / Salt, and any other spices you might want, though I wouldn't recommend it ;-)
---
A heavy pot for the lamb shank
A smaller pot to cook the Orzo
A lasagna pan (8x14x2?) for the final product

Prep: Let meat soak for at least 1 hour, rinse when done.

(1) In a heavy pot, put in a little bit of oil (to just get a little bit of action).
(2) Put in the lamb shanks, and fry them. Pot is uncovered. Brown the lam shanks, turning as necessary.
(3) After about 4 minutes, put in onions, mix them together.
(4) Put on medium heat, cover the pot.
(5) After about 15 minutes, add one cup of water to aid cooking.
(6) At 30 minutes, put in one can tomato, re-fill the can with water, and put that in. Put on high heat.
(7) When tender (about 1 hour 15 minutes), take out, cut meat from bones, cut out any veins and excess fat. When in pieces that we want, put back into the pot.
(8) Now, put in one kitchen-spoon tablespoon's worth fo salt, 1/2 tablespoon pepper, and 1/2 cup of water. Cook at medium heat for 1/2 hour.

Meanwhile, it's Orzo time

(9) In the smaller pot, put in 4 cups of water to boil. Pinch of salt.
(10) When boiling, put in 1/4 stick butter, put in orzo. Cook for 4-5 minutes, you DO NOT want it to really cook.
(11) Now in the lasagna pan, put a little of the meat's red sauce in there, and then empty the orzo and water all into the lasagna pan.
(12) Now scoop in all of the meat, gently, and then pour in the balance of the red sauce. Gently mix together.
(13) Broil at 350F for about 1/2 hour. Now's a great time to do the dishes.
(14) After the 1/2 hour, turn off the oven, and let sit for 15 minutes. Serve it up baby!

New Debian Out (last week)!

And when you put it on the P4 machine -- it works wicked well! More thoughts when I get to play with it more :-)

Chris Ballew - Robert Goulet On The River Nile

The lyrics floating around the web have a few errors in them -- and I'm not quite sure whether he's saying "Eating Gourmet" -- because the next line says "her" -- so could it be like "Edith" or "Eden" Gourmet? I guess we'll never know!

Not at all! I'll leave that previous paragraph as a testament to pain and agony ;-) , because I figured it out -- Eydie Gormé!!! Other links: Mel Tormé -- and we'll certainly remember him from Night Court -- and of course Robert Goulet -- not only did he have a hilarious moment in Scrooged, everyone's favorite Christmas Movie with Bill Murray, but he's also a Massachusetts native -- and French Canadian! "Comment ca went" and other such triflings :-) That discovery of the Eydie Gormé really makes me happy because it was totally driving me crazy -- now I'll just need to figure out a song she sung and listen to what she actually sounds like!

-----------

Standing up high on a mountain top
Looking at the valley below
Mary Poppins flies by on a rattlesnake and
I bury my head in the Egyptian snow

Robert Goulet on the River Nile
Blue moon winking at the sky
Lucky Strike stuck in his big ol' smile
Crouching in the weeds
I watch the boat float by

They float by
They float by

Mel Torme kissing a camel lip
His pinky ring glistenin' in the sun
Back-up band is a monkey and a horse
Mel can barely bow when the band is done
Eydie Gormé on a bi-plane wing
Her silver tooth blinding the crowd
Pilot does a barrell roll flip and stallin
And a chorus girl mosh pit breaks her fall

We brake her fall
Brake her fall
Yeah
Do-do-do-do-do-do
